I am documenting my path of discovery, planning, designing and building a personally tailored and sustainable home.

By 2030, government and architects are planning to lead the way to building significantly more sustainable homes, buildings and developments.  The fact is the tools are already here.  I’m on a personal quest to design and construct a home that requires little to no power off the grid and is tailored to the way my family lives our lives (and doesn’t cost more than a traditional home!)

By treating this like a User Experience problem, I am going to take a look at my needs, my wife’s needs, the kids, guests, extended family, seasonal activities and intersect those with environmental responsibility, financial impact, aesthetic appeal and so on until all the pieces fit… then I’m going to design and build my ideal home.
